St Dubricius Church of England First School, and its associated Nursery, is set in the heart of the Exmoor Village of Porlock. Exmoor is a magnificent place in which to grow up, and we aim to deliver an education to match. St Dubricius School currently has 80 pupils in Years R to 4. Our on-site, teacher-led Local Authority Nursery accommodates up to 20 FTE (3 and 4 year old) Nursery pupils.

The Benefice of Porlock and Porlock Weir with Stoke Pero, Selworthy and Luccombe in the Deanery of Exmoor, comprises five churches – St Dubricius, Porlock; St Nicholas, Porlock Weir; Stoke Pero; All Saints, Selworthy; St Mary the Virgin, Luccombe and two chapels – Lynch and Tivington. Of the five churches, St Dubricius is the oldest, being of medieval origin and is situated in the very centre of Porlock village.

Service 10.30 am Sundays, coffee & fellowship following the service. All welcome. The church in Porlock is very active, putting on a varied programme of events each year. The downstairs hall and meeting room are well used by church & community groups and are available for booking. Porlock is the furthest west church in the West Somerset Circuit, which extends to Williton in the east, encompassing Minehead and large parts of Exmoor. The Porlock Methodists give a warm Christian welcome to both residents and visitors to Porlock.

Porlock Village Hall is situated at the western end of the High Street at the bottom of Porlock Hill opposite The Ship Inn. The car park entrance is located 50 metres further west along the Toll Road. The original hall, now the Large Hall, was built by public subscription and fundraising with the foundation stone laid by Mary, Countess of Lovelace, in 1925. The small hall and adjacent facilities were added in 1974 with a generous gift from Mr R Woodrow and donations from the people of Porlock. The village hall is available for hire for events and celebrations. Wheelchair access and licensed to serve alcohol.

Available for a variety of uses at a reasonable rate, Bossington Chapel is an ideal venue in a beautiful location. Although still in use as a place of worship once a month, the chapel is available for events such as meetings, quiet days, sleep-overs and exhibitions (subject to terms and conditions: no alcohol allowed.) Set in some 5.5 acres, Porlock Recreation Ground is in a conservation area and contributes significantly to the social and leisure needs of residents and visitors of all age groups. Facilities include a well-equipped children’s playground, two football pitches, a cricket pitch, floodlit tennis court and multisport court and a dog exercise field, as well as a large pavilion with a meeting and function room, kitchen, changing rooms, showers, disabled toilets and baby changing room. The Porlock and District Bowls Club is situated beside the Recreation Ground.

Porlock Community Library is run by volunteers but is part of Libraries West, the leading public library consortium in the UK. Facilities include borrowing books, free use of public computers and free wi-fi – visitors are welcome to join. The library is situated in the Old School Centre next to Porlock Visitor Centre and The Lovelace Centre.
