Porlock Pilgrim’s Trail – Walk Exmoor event
We are delighted to announce that Porlock will host an exciting new walking weekend on March 27th to 29th 2026. Porlock Pilgrim’s Trail – Walk Exmoor will offer a selection of routes suitable to walkers of all abilities, from long-distance enthusiasts to families and day-visitors. Times given will be confirmed at a later date.
The routes will follow the Porlock Pilgrim’s Trail (porlockpilgrim.co.uk) which is now three years old. The Trail, which links nine churches and chapels scattered across the glorious countryside of Exmoor, has gained UK-wide press coverage and nearly 1000 guidebooks have been sold.
The walking weekend offers visitors and local residents the opportunity to experience early spring in Exmoor’s wild and untouched landscape. Every walker will receive a Trail guidebook which they can stamp at each of the historic churches and chapels as a memento of their adventure.
There will be three grades of walk:
29 mile complete circuit (challenging)
Two 15 mile half-circuits, east and west (robust)
A 6 mile circular walk to Porlock Weir tabernacle (gentle)
A 6 mile circular walk to Hurlestone Point and Lynch Chapel of Ease (gentle)
Walkers have all weekend to enjoy the Trail and the area. Which route they take and how far to walk is entirely up to them. Numbers will be limited and booking will open in September but walkers are already registering their interest on the Trail’s website.
The cost of the weekend will be £15 per person – to include a complimentary copy of the Porlock Pilgrim’s Trail guidebook. Full details for registration and all the weekend’s events, such as hearty pub meals and musical entertainment, will be available soon.
The weekend starts with an optional meal at the Top Ship as a welcome but registrations for walkers are only taking place on Saturday 28th and Sunday 29th.
