A village information centre has come up with a fund-raising scheme to help secure its future and give back to the community at the same time.
Porlock Visitor Centre is launching the Porlock Vale Lottery to give ticket buyers the chance to win a prize each and every month.
The centre is self-funding and relies on grants and the generosity of those who support it through this and other initiatives, including the Friends of Porlock Visitor Centre scheme.
The lottery was the idea of centre manager Deborah Stanyon who is tasked not only with ensuring the smooth running of the centre but finding ways to raise money.
Deborah said: “I wanted to think of a way that the Visitor Centre could generate more income in order to continue to deliver the services to our community and tourism businesses. This is one way where our community member ticket holders and the Visitor Centre will benefit financially.
“A lottery is not a new idea, but one which we had not explored as a way of raising funds. Please do think about purchasing a ticket or two as this will help us keep the Visitor Centre facilities available for all.”
Tickets for Porlock Vale Lottery, which officially launches on April 1st, cost just £15 for one year with a chance to win a first prize of £50 or second prize of £25 each month. Tickets run from April 1st 2023 until March 31st 2024 when ticket holders will be offered the chance to renew their existing ticket. Multiple tickets can be purchased but you must be over 18 to take part.
Winners will be notified in person and then will also be announced on Porlock Visitor Centre’s Facebook accounts as well as on the village’s website www.porlock.co.uk
If you would like to buy a ticket or find out more about becoming a Friend, please call 01643 863150, email visit@porlock.co.uk or pop into the centre.
